About SSA#49?
Alderman Sandi Jackson, SSA#49 Board of Commission and the South Shore Chamber Inc., has combined their resources, in order to eliminate development gaps and foster greater achievement within the 7th Ward area. The goal of South Shore Exchange Special Service Area (SSA#49) is to position its commercial corridors as a desirable, safe and foot walking destination, which will attract residents and visitors more frequently. In addition to supporting retail businesses, cultural planning and real estate development, SSA#49 will also help restore the beatification and amenities that 7th Ward patrons can appreciate while supporting businesses in our community.
How do I as a business and/or resident benefit from being in SSA#49 Commercial Corridor?
Businesses and residents within SSA #49 boundaries receive Special Services for
their areas:
- Five (5) hours a week of beautification for streets, side walk sweeping and litter removal,
- In winter months, snow removal at bus stops and sidewalks in all
SSA#49 areas are prioritized, - SSA#49 area’s are banner decorated to colorize the designation of the commercial corridor distinction,
- SSA#49 areas are provided private security patrol on foot along the commercial corridor. Officers are highly visible as a deterrent to crime.
Who pays for these services?
The SSA#49 is a result of the efforts of 7th Ward Natashia L. Holmes, the South Shore Chamber, Inc. and a tax levy from businesses in the SSA#49 .
